Touch is the most primal sense.  It connects us with those we love; reassures and comforts, inspires and arouses.  To touch a weaving is to know the heart of the weaver.

Kay Flynn’s work speaks to this.  She is dedicated to creating pieces that complete the environment they inhabit, or the individual who wears them.

“Before I start weaving I survey the final environment, or take time to talk with the intended wearer.  I want my work to go beyond comfort and function…..to enrich its setting and owner.”

She views the world as a canvas that her weavings color and complete.  Kay has become a world traveler to countries where weaving is still a part of the culture.  She has studied, collected and photographed weavings from Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Greece and most recently Peru.  Designs from these travels have influenced her weavings and continue to do so.

Kay’s work graces private collections around the globe.  The trademark of these pieces is that they are an intrinsic part of their environment, beautifully understated and subtle.   “My work never shouts, it whispers”.

I especially enjoy creating weavings for my clients that interpret what they see.  Most of the items in my gallery are pieces done related to commissions using the Theo Moorman tapestry technique which I particularly enjoy as well as other weaver-controlled techniques.  Table linens with open-work such as Leno or Brooks Bouquet are very popular.  Also, I am happy to weave the perfect upholstery fabric or chair covering -- a pattern could be created just for you.  If there is a piece in my gallery that attracts you, contact me for a price quote.”

Kay specializes in woven pictures, ruanas, throws and table linens.
